Engine and supported generations
Damage is computed with the open-source @smogon/calc engine and covers Generations 9, 8 and 7. Choose Generation 9 for Terastallization or Generation 7 for Mega Evolution. Results show the low and high end of the 16 damage rolls together with the number of hits needed to KO. Critical hits, weather, screens, status, held items and abilities are all taken into account.
FAQ
Why is the damage shown as a range?
Each hit is multiplied by a random factor from 85% to 100% in 16 steps, so the same setup varies. The lower bound shown is the damage you are guaranteed at minimum.
Can I calculate Mega Evolution damage?
Yes — pick Generation 7 in the generation selector, which includes all 50 Mega Evolutions and the Mega Stones. Generation 9 gives you Terastallization instead.
Can I share a calculation?
Yes. Your settings are encoded into the URL, so sending that link reproduces the exact same setup for anyone. Popular EV spreads on the usage pages also load straight into the calculator this way.
Can I use this for Pokémon Champions battles?
Yes. You can switch the battle format between singles and doubles, so it matches either Champions ruleset. If your team uses Mega Evolution, select Gen 7.
What is the difference between a guaranteed 2HKO and a possible 2HKO?
A guaranteed 2HKO means every one of the 16 damage rolls knocks the target out in two hits. A possible 2HKO only lands in two hits on a high roll; otherwise it takes three. This calculator shows the damage range and states which case applies.
