Egg steps and hunt length
Egg steps come from each Pokémon’s egg-cycle count. In Scarlet & Violet one cycle is 128 steps, so the figure is (cycles + 1) × 128. Carrying a Pokémon with Flame Body or a similar ability halves it. For shiny hunting, the tool also multiplies the eggs you need by the step count to give a total.

FAQ
What determines how many steps an egg takes?
By the species’ fixed egg-cycle count. In Generation 9 a cycle is 128 steps, so a 20-cycle Pokémon needs about (20+1) × 128 = 2,688 steps.
Can I make eggs hatch faster?
Keep a Pokémon with Flame Body, Steam Engine or Magma Armor in your party to halve the steps required. Stacking more than one does not help further.
How many eggs do I need to hatch for a shiny?
With the Masuda method (1/683), about 474 eggs for a 50% chance and 1,573 for 90%. Combining it with the Shiny Charm (1/512) brings 50% down to 355 eggs. Pick a target rate on this page to also get the total step count.
