About

PokéKit is a fast, free, multilingual (9 languages) Pokémon toolkit for competitive battling, raising, data lookup and a full Pokédex.

Who runs this site

PokéKit is an unofficial fan site run by an individual. It is not operated by a company or organisation and has no connection with Nintendo, Creatures or Game Freak. Questions about the content or the data are handled through the contact form (we do not accept enquiries by direct e-mail).

What the site is for

Battle preparation (damage calculation, Speed comparison, EV tuning, usage stats), training (IVs, natures, hatching, shiny hunting) and reference (Pokédex, moves, abilities, items, type matchups) in one place — in 9 languages, free and without sign-up. It covers 1,025 Pokémon species, 685 moves, 310 abilities, 249 items and usage stats for 5 battle formats.

Data sources and licences

The site never queries external APIs while you browse. It only shows data fetched from the sources below at build time or in a monthly batch job. All of them are unofficial community projects; the rights to the underlying game data belong to Nintendo, Creatures and Game Freak.

  • @pkmn/dex · @pkmn/data · @pkmn/setsBundled as a package at build time

Base stats, types, abilities, learnsets, natures and the type chart (Generations 1–9), plus reading and writing teams in Showdown format.

    Licence / terms: MIT

  • @smogon/calcBundled as a package at build time

The damage calculation engine. The published npm release does not support Pokémon Champions, so we build and bundle the latest upstream version, which includes the Champions formulas.

    Licence / terms: MIT

  • Pokémon ShowdownCommit aa6d5f0 (fetched September 14, 2026)

Which moves and abilities are available in Pokémon Champions and how they changed from Generation 9, Champions learnsets, and the trigger conditions and numbers of items and berries.

    Licence / terms: MIT

  • projectpokemon/champoutCommit 50e7233 (fetched September 14, 2026)

In-game text from Pokémon Champions, used for official names and descriptions in 9 languages. Where it differs from PokeAPI, the in-game text wins.

    Licence / terms: MIT

  • PokeAPIFetched at build time

Names in 9 languages, Pokédex categories and entries, effect text for moves, abilities and items, training data such as egg steps, and berries.

Licence / terms: PokeAPI claims no rights over the data. Following its fair-use policy, we fetch only at build time.

  • Smogon / Pokémon ShowdownUpdated monthly · currently September 2026 data

Usage rates and the shares of moves, items, abilities, Tera Types, spreads and teammates (monthly aggregates of the Pokémon Showdown ladder).

Licence / terms: Aggregated statistics only. We do not use the analyses or sample sets that Smogon holds rights to. Our formatted data is redistributed as open data with attribution.

  • CPokemon/plza-textFetched at build time

In-game text from Pokémon Legends: Z-A, used only to fill in form and item names missing from the Champions text — never for descriptions.

Licence / terms: No licence is stated, so we use it only to fill in short proper names (form and item names).

  • PokeAPI/spritesLoaded from the CDN when displayed

Pokémon and item images. They are displayed via jsDelivr only and are not stored on our server.

Licence / terms: Linked only (image rights belong to Nintendo and the other rights holders).

How often the data is updated

Usage stats are updated automatically on the 15th of each month: we fetch them after Smogon publishes the previous month’s aggregates and rebuild the site if anything changed. The current data is from September 2026; the month and number of battles per format are below.

FormatMonthBattles
Champions SinglesSeptember 202669,462
OU (Singles)September 2026574,541
Champions DoublesSeptember 20261,631,943
Doubles OUSeptember 2026196,031
VGC 2026September 20269,911

Pokémon Champions data (available moves and abilities, learnsets, item mechanics) is re-fetched when the regulation changes or the game is updated. The current regulation is M-C (September 9, 2026 – December 2, 2026); the data was last fetched on September 17, 2026.

Names, descriptions and other data from PokeAPI are re-fetched when data for new Pokémon or games is published.

How calculations and wording are checked

  • Damage is calculated with @smogon/calc, the same engine as the Pokémon Showdown damage calculator. Before adopting the bundled latest version we confirmed that it gives exactly the same results and descriptions as the previous npm release on representative Generation 9, 8 and 7 cases.
  • Pokémon Champions rules (level fixed at 50, IVs always maxed, Stat Points instead of EVs, no Terastallization in the current regulation) are enforced in the server-side calculation as well as in the interface.
  • Item trigger conditions and numbers are read from the Pokémon Showdown source, and only those whose numbers match @pkmn’s per-generation descriptions are published. Anything that disagrees is left out.
  • Names of Pokémon, moves, abilities, items and natures come from official multilingual data; we never make up our own translations. Descriptions that have no official translation are shown in the original English, clearly marked as such.
